Integrated Tax Planning and Whole-Course Problem Solving

Whole-course integration problems. These questions are intentionally mixed so the first task is issue spotting.

Integrated Problems

Question 1 — Entity choice

A profitable consulting business can operate as a sole trader, company or discretionary trust. Build an issue list rather than recommending an entity immediately.

Question 2 — Business sale

A company sells goodwill and equipment, repays a shareholder loan and distributes the remaining cash. Identify at least five distinct tax analyses.

Question 3 — Employee/shareholder

A shareholder-director receives salary, a company car, a low-interest company loan and a franked dividend. Map each benefit to the relevant regime.

Question 4 — Property transaction

A trust buys land, develops new residences and sells them. Identify the income tax/CGT, GST, trust and possible financing issues that must be sequenced.

Question 5 — Restructure

A sole trader wants to move a growing business into a company before taking on an investor. Identify the rollover, CGT, GST, SBE and future-company issues.

Question 6 — Final advice

Explain the difference between an exam conclusion and professional tax advice.
